From Austin to Creede: Small World

What a small world we live in! When I first made the move to Creede, nestled deep in one of Colorado’s most remote mountain towns, I expected peace, quiet—and honestly, a little isolation. But to my surprise, I’ve found myself surrounded by familiar accents, hometown pride, and fellow Texans who, like me, were drawn to the rugged beauty and slower pace of life here in the San Juans.

Creede has a charm that’s impossible to ignore, even if you’re coming from somewhere as iconic as Austin. Back when I was a student at the University of Texas, my spring breaks looked a little different than most—I was volunteering at SXSW, soaking up the energy, meeting creatives, and even bumping into the occasional celebrity. Ask me about the early 2000s sometime—there are stories I might share over coffee or a hike (and a few I probably won’t!).

It’s truly amazing to see our little mountain town featured in a film that’s hitting the SXSW lineup this year. Creede may be small in size, but it’s big in spirit, culture, and the kind of community that sticks with you. I can’t wait to see how the film captures the beauty, the history, and the soul of this place I now call home.

While I’ll always be a Texan at heart, I’ve learned that finding your place doesn’t mean forgetting where you came from—it means expanding what “home” means. And that’s exactly what Creede has done for me.

If you're curious about Creede, planning a visit, or thinking about planting roots here, I’d love to show you around—my favorite hiking trails, fishing spots, or even your future front porch. Whether you're comparing Colorado real estate to the Texas market or simply exploring mountain towns, I'm here to guide you.
